Mamata returns to Nandigram on the day of Holi

For the first time after she suffered injuries on March 10 evening West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday (March 28) returned to Nandigram and visited the spot where the incident took place.

She maintained that someone deliberately shut the door of her vehicle on her causing injuries on her ankle and other parts of body.

Mamata, who has been campaigning on wheel chair, reached Nandigram when the state was celebrating Holi.

According to reports she would be in Nandigram till the election campaign ends on March 30 evening. She may again return to Nandigram on the polling day, that is April 1.

Her return to Nandigram has electrified the rank and file of the Trinamool Congress workers and supporters. In her absence the BJP has stepped up attack on her and intensified the campaign with the visit of the top brass of the party.

In the meantime, Mamata’s polling agent, S K Sufian and 62 other people, mostly TMC supporters, had to go underground after the Calcutta High Court order to reopen cases against them.

The Left Front government had during the high time of land struggle in Nandigram lodged FIR against these 63 people. When Mamata Banerjee came to power she withdrew these cases.

But only a few weeks back a BJP worker Nilanjan Adhikari filed a PIL seeking the revival of the cases.

However, on March 26 the Supreme Court stayed the Calcutta High Court and thus allowed Sufian to function.

With Mamata campaigning again and her polling agent no more underground the TMC’s electioneering is likely to gather steam.
