Proud to have started no new war, Trump claims in his valedictory speech

While granting pardon to a large number of prisoners which include his
former close aides, the outgoing US President Donald Trump in his last
speech on Tuesday said “I am especially proud to be a President in
decades who has started no new wars” and have brought soldiers back to
home.

Highlighting his achievements in binging about new peace deals he
claimed that “it is the dawn of a new Middle East”. He went on to say
as to how he reshaped the American foreign, domestic and economic
policies and stood up against China.

While addressing his supporters Trump said that the work they had
started had just begun. But he went on to denounce violence.

However, while referring to the transfer of power he made no mention
of Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, Trump pardoned his former advisor and chief strategist
Steve Bannon
and many others at the fag end of his Presidency on Jan
19. Other prominent ones who were the beneficiary of his clemency are
Elliott Broidy, a leading former fundraiser for him, rappers Lil Wayne
and Kodak Black and former mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick.

However, Trump didn’t pardon himself or any member of his family and
lawyer and former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani, who was among those
who made efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

His speech came as President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect
Kamala Harris arrived in Washington. They both paid tributes to over
four lakh people who died of the pandemic in the last 11 months. Biden
spoke about the new challenges his country is facing, especially in the
health and economic sectors.
